With an aim to develop the management of its library operation, the Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Bahrain Training Institute (BTI) started to adopt the Integrated Library System “Koha”; an open source Integrated Library System (ILS), used world-wide by public, school and special libraries.

The LRC staff started working on Koha since the beginning of 2018/2019 training year, by entering more than 10.000 books and references in Koha system. The adoption of Koha officially started during the second training semester 2019/2020.

Commenting on that, BTI Director General Dr. Samah Al Ajjawi said that “BTI seeks to update its administrative and academic operations, in line with the latest updates and developments of modern technology, as well as the needs of its partners and stakeholders, including BTI trainees of various programs who are benefiting from the Learning Resource Center (LRC) and all other training divisions of the Institute”.

on his side, Head of LRC Mr. Zuhair Al- Saleh said that the “Koha system is an automated open source integrated library system, specifically designed for the management of libraries operations, using the latest technologies of open source systems, adopting the (beneficiary / server) system which is open to various networks, devices and systems.

It’s worth mentioning that the system consists mainly of subsystems for provisioning, indexing, search and retrieval (online automatic index), as well as a reporting subsystem, another system for lending, and a beneficiary subsystem.
