BTI announces the second semester assessment mechanisms

15-Apr-2020

Director General of Bahrain Training Institute (BTI), Dr. Samah Al Ajjawi, announced the new assessment mechanisms to be adopted this year in response to the exceptional teaching and learning contexts emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The new assessment mechanism would be based on the activities and assignments accomplished by trainees during the second training semester, instead of final exams.
“The Failed/ Passed system would be adopted for the final assessment instead of the grading system” Dr. Samah Al Ajjawi added, confirming that “trainees’ GPA will not be affected and the hours accomplished during the semester will be calculated and added to the total credit hours accomplished”.
Dr. Samah also said that “In response to the current teaching and learning contexts arising from the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, and with the paradigmatic shift of virtual teaching and learning using both synchronous and asynchronous modes through MS Teams and Moodle, respectively, the nascent e-teaching and learning trend propels the development of contingency assessment mechanisms which are valid, reliable, fair and fit for purpose”.
“The new alternative assessment mechanisms are aligned with the alternative assessment policies taken by the Ministry of Education and the public higher education institutes in addition to the policies of the international awarding bodies and partners. The assessment mechanisms would also consider the nature of various training programs offered at BTI as well as the specificity of each program” she added.

It is worth mentioning that the online teaching and learning system has been activated for BTI trainees since the beginning of March 2020, following the decision to suspend study in all educational institutes, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students in light of the precautions taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to limit the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
